Western Rampart

The Western Rampart is situated primarily in the western Copenhagen suburb of Hvidovre and is a defence that is over a century old. It is around fifteen kilometres long. From the 1960s onwards the fortification has been transformed into a popular recreational area used by walkers, joggers and cyclists. It has also been developed as a nature reserve since it is rich in plant and animal life. It has received European Union funding to develop its status as a historical monument and wildlife sanctuary.
