The Water Spiral is located in the heart of the old city of Odense, in Blackfriars Square. It is made of granite and ceramic. The piece is extremely bright, in alternating stripes of red and blue, and catches the light in an attractive way. It was the winner of a design contest. The artist was Niels Guttormsen. The piece was unveiled in 1987. It was a gift to the city from Albani, one of Denmark’s largest brewers, who are Odense-based.
