Vor Frue Kirke, the Church of Our Lady, is often known as Copenhagen Cathedral. The present church dates from the early nineteenth century, although a church has stood on this site, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, since the thirteenth century. The present building is neo-classical in style and was designed by C.F. Hansen, while the interior was decorated by the celebrated sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen; there is a bust of him inside. The church is often a venue for organ concerts or special services of a national significance.
