Vor Frelser Kirke (the Church of Our Saviour) was given to the city by Christian V and was completed in 1696. It receives many thousands of visitors. It is architecturally extraordinary, featuring a copper and gold spire,with a gilded flight of steps twisting around the spire. Ascending the spire is a must for many. At the top of the spire stands a figure of Christ the Saviour sanding on a globe. The interior of the church is ornate, and almost all of the details date back to the eighteenth century. A former pastor of the church was revered educational reformer and hymn-writer N.F.S Grundtvig.
