The Vestre Cemetery is Scandinavia’s largest and dates from the nineteenth century. Many famous Danes are buried here. It is also the resting place of many war dead. It covers an area of 500,000 square metres. It is a peaceful place, and contains attractive tree-lined paths and thus is frequented by walkers and those who wish merely to sit in the sunshine. The fact that British and other foreign soldiers killed on Danish soil during both World Wars are buried here is likely to be of particular interest to visitors.
