Valdemars Slot, which is near Svendborg, is one of Denmark’s most magnificent stately homes and is the largest family home in Denmark, covering eight thousand square metres. It was built by King Christian IV, designed by his master builder Stenwinkel, and intended as his son Christian Valdemar’s home. It was awarded as naval bounty to Admiral Juel and his family have lived there for eleven generations. It contains twenty-one beautifully furnished rooms that are open to the public and is a place no visitor to the area should miss.
