Strøget (pronounced “Stroy-lth”) is the oldest pedestrianised shopping street in the world, and one of the longest. The venue for parades, protests, busking and many other lively street activities, it links the Town Hall Square with Kongens Nytorv. It features a wide array of shops, bars and cafes to suit most tastes. The end of Strøget nearest Kongens Nytorv contains the more exclusive stores, although most of these are unstuffy and relaxed, by the standards of London and Paris. Very few international chains are to be found on the street; most are long-established local businesses.
