"The Steadfast Tin Soldier" is one of several statues in the city of Odense that depict characters from the tales of Hans Christian Andersen. Andersen was born and lived his childhood in poverty here. The soldier is depicted, just as in the story, with only one leg. The sculptor was Eiler Madsen, whose has completed some other commissions for statues around the town. It is cast in bronze and was unveiled in 1996.
