St Ansgar was the apostle to the Danes, and this Cathedral, lying near to the Russian Orthodox church of St. Alexander Nevsky, is the home of Catholicism in Denmark. It is late nineteenth century, and despite being Catholic, feels very Danish inside. It is tastefully and modestly decorated, with the gated pews which are typical of local churches. It welcomes huge numbers of foreign visitors, and is open all day for silent prayer, although almost all Masses are said in Danish. There is a small museum on site which can be visited by appointment.
