The Social Welfare Museum, or Forsorgsmuseet, is an attraction all interested in the history of Denmark’s welfare state, the envy of much of the world, will be keen to visit. Situated in central Svendborg, it is housed in a former poorhouse of the municipality. It explores the development of the post-war welfare system, from its instigation in the 1950s, featuring recreations of early doctor’s and dentist’s waiting rooms. It has a souvenir shop.
