The Skt Petri Church is the German-speaking Lutheran Church of Copenhagen. It is the oldest church still standing in the inner city. Parts of the building date back to the 15th century and it was originally a Catholic church given to German-speakers by King Frederik II. It was extensively extended and re-designed in the reign of Christian IV. At this time it was an important meeting point for the elites of the city, since many in the court were German speaking. It has been extensively restored in recent times, and is now in the care of the Danish state.
