Silkeborg Museum is housed in one of the town’s oldest buildings, which dates from 1767. It contains two extraordinary and world-famous exhibits “Tollund Man” and “Elling Woman”, which are remarkably well-preserved Iron Age bodies found in nearby peat bogs. The chemical conditions in the bogs were such that they had a preserving effect; the original discoverers of “Tollund Man” thought they had come across a recent murder victim! The museum contains many other objects connected with the area, including notable collections of furnishings and ceramics.
