Sct. Jacobi Church is dedicated to the apostle St. James. It lies in the centre of the town of Varde, near the main square. The body of the church is built of stone in Romanesque style. The tower, which has a spire, is an addition from just before the Reformation. The church is, however, no longer traditional in form; it was substantially altered in the early nineteenth century when two additional wings were added, so that its ground plan is now in the shape of a cross.
