Sanct Jørgens Kirke is dedicated to St. George. A church has been on this site since the twelfth century. The church was originally established to serve a leper colony in what was then an isolated area outside the town. The remains of the original wooden church have been discovered, and can be seen in the grounds, as the result of recent excavations. Over time the church was extended, since the spread of bubonic plague made the number of outcasts even greater. By 1500 a tower was added to the church. The leper colony is thankfully gone and the church remains.
