Saint Nicolai Church stands in the heart of old Nakskov, near the harbour. It is the town’s chief church and its enormous spire dominates the horizon. Its present external appearance owes most to the seventeenth century. The interior contains much from the same period. The pulpit was completed in 1630 and was the work of Jørgen Ringnis. The oldest parts of the organ date from this time. The interior is whitewashed and the pews are attractively painted. The font stands in the aisle and is carved of white limestone. The chancel contains a connonball which struck the church during the Swedish seige of 1658-9.
