On the site of the old city fortifications and next to the bank of artificial lakes, lies the Ørsted park, named after one of many of Denmark’s distinguished scientists, H. C. Ørsted. The lakes themselves formed part of the old city’s defences, but are now more sought out by joggers, walkers, and (in the winter) people who literally enjoy walking on thin ice. The park is popular and has a safe atmospere. There are excellent children’s playgrounds within it. All is clean and tidy, and there is plenty of public seating.
