The ruins of Riberhus lie on the edge of the medieval city of Ribe, a short distance to the north west of the main square. You can see remains of parts of the walls of the castle. The moat around the castle remains and the area has been preserved free of development. The castle was of vital importance in medieval times, when it was a seat of power for both the King and the church. It is known to have existed from around 1300, although archaeological digs here have revealed remains from the twelfth century. The site contains a statue of Dagmar, the medieval Queen of Valdemar the Victorious.
