Oceania stands near the centre of Odense. This modern sculpture is one of the most controversial and well-known in the city. It was created by Svend Wiig Hansen and unveiled in 1992. It depicts a huge human figure reclining. It is unclear whether the figure is male or female. It inspires strong feelings in local people, positive and negative. It is extremely popular with children, who enjoy climbing on it. It was commissioned by the Odense City Arts Foundation.
