The Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek (New Carlsberg Sculpture Museum) was founded by the nineteenth century brewer Carl Jacobsen, son of the brewery’s founder. The Jacobsens were great philanthropists, and their enormous private collection of art forms the basis of this museum, which they gave to the Danish nation. Building on the collectors’ original interests, it contains a great deal of sculpture from the ancient world as well as nineteenth and twentieth century art from France and Europe, including a fine collection of impressionist paintings. The bulding itself is designed to impress and inspire and has lovely gardens. The Glyptotek is one of Denmark’s most visited buildings.
