The Nordlys gallery, situated in central Copenhagen, is a showcase for contemporary Icelandic art. Iceland is a former colony of Denmark and retains many historical and cultural connections. There is a permanent exhibition of a couple of dozen artists and this is complemented by changing special exhibitions showing some of the best work from this far-flung and sparsely inhabited island. Much of the work is inspired by Iceland’s dramatic scenery – especially its wild volcanic heartland.
