The Monument to Ewald and Wessel stands in the Trinity Church square, by the Round Tower, in the heart of Copenhagen. It was designed by Otto Evens and erected in 1879. Johannes Ewald is one of the foremost names in Danish literature. He lived in the eighteenth century and wrote the words for Denmark’s Royal Anthem. Norwegian-born Johan Hermann Wessel is equally celebrated and of the same era. The monument features reliefs in bronze of the writers.
