Kongens Nytorv means "The King’s New Square" and it is one of the most important in Copenhagen. Although traffic runs all around the square, the centre is for pedestrians only and is frequently used for displays and exhibitions as well as occasional events such as concerts and fashion shows. During the winter it becomes a free ice-skating rink. If you have no skates there are skate-hire facilities. Around the square are several magnificent buildings, notably Magasin du Nord, the Hotel d’Angleterre and the Royal Theatre. On one side of the square you will find the popular tourist area of Nyhavn.
