Illum is a Copenhagen institution as well as its most exclusive department store. While it holds a huge range of goods, it is also architecturally significant. The interior is consistently fascinating and spectacular, as you can see all the way down to the lowest levels while ascending the escalators, and above the top floor is a spectacular glass dome. Illum is not just a shop, it has several friendly and relaxed cafes and provides a popular meeting point. The top floor café allows excellent views over the city, and has an outside balcony that is used in good weather.
