Hyllested Church lies a few kilometres to the north east of Ebeltoft. It is a medieval building dating from the thirteenth century. The church contains a medieval font in Romanesque style. It has a Baroque altarpiece that contains a fine painting by Mogens Thrane from 1750. It is best-known for having a large number of pre-Reformation wall paintings. These were painted around 1500 and depict various themes, primarily from the life of Christ. They were restored in the nineteen sixties.
