Karlsgåde power station is situated outside Varde and is near a large lake. It is the second-largest hydo-electric facility in the country, and dates from the 1920s. It produces five million kilowatt hours of electricity per year. Those interested in the history of environmentally-sensitive power generation or the workings of this particular plant, or the natural area in which it is set will be interested in the free exhibition which welcomes visitors all year round.
