Amber is sometimes known as the "Nordic gold". In this part of the world it has even been accepted as currency. Working with amber has long been a Scandinavian art. Situated in one of the oldest houses in this part of Copenhagen, the commercial museum of amber workers and jewellers House of Amber is a popular tourist attraction. As well as striking and valuable jewellery containing amber, the museum houses the worlds largest piece of amber, weighing in at around 9 kilos, in addition to many other interesting finds, such as pieces with insects and plants embedded. There is a gift shop on site.
