The island of Hjortø is one of the most unspoilt of the Baltics inhabited islands. Containing just fifteen inhabitants, it is accessible from Svendborg by ferry, and is very much the place to come if you want to enjoy nature and peace away from the rat race. A tour around the entire island on foot takes around two hours. Hjortø is farmed and is characterised by cultivated fields. It is popular with cyclists. If you want to cycle around the island it is advisable to hire a bicycle in Svendborg if you do not have one with you.
