Helsinge Church was built in the Romanesque period, which is the equivalent of the Norman in English church architecture. Its chancel and nave date back eight hundred years. The tower was added during the fifteenth century, and is built of brick. The church contains a fine edition of the first translation of the Bible into Danish, which dates from 1550. The translation is the work of Christiern Pedersen, a scholar who lived the last years of his life in the town.
