Hans Christian Andersen is Denmark’s most celebrated writer. His stories have been translated into every major language. His childhood home lies in the centre of Odense, near to the cathedral church of St. Knud. It has been a museum since 1930. Andersen’s autobiographical writings have been used to ensure that every detail of the interior is accurate. Andersen, who was the son of a shoemaker, had extremely humble beginnings; the home is only eighteen square metres in size.
