Gråbrødretorv means “Grey brother’s square” and this lively square is named after the Grey Friars who occupied a monastery here until the reformation. After serious damage was inflicted during the British bombardment of Copenhagen in 1807, it was substantially rebuilt, and most of the buildings around the square are nineteenth century in origin. It is a popular meeting place for young people. Bands frequently play here and there are plenty of street cafes.
