Gjellerup Church is located in a village in the Jylland countryside to the northeast of Herning. It is set in the heart of the village and has a large and well-kept churchyard. The church has the oldest dated inscription of any in Denmark - it records, in Latin, that the church was founded in 1140. The church was substantially extended in the late Gothic period and a tower added in the eighteenth century.
