Standing in Georg Brandes Place, the memorial to Georg Brandes ftakes the form of a bust created by sculptor Max Klinger. Brandes was an influential writer, controversialist and literary critic of the late nineteenth century. He was born in Copenhagen to secular Jewish parents. His radical thought and vision of literature as a tool to be used for accurate depiction and practical progress were hugely influential in his time; he is known to have been admired by playwright Henrik Ibsen.
