The Geological Museum is part of the University of Copenhagen. It contains specimens that have been in the possession of the university for 300 years. It welcomes around 25,000 visitors per year. It houses the most extensive collection of geological exhibits in Europe and a huge collection of fossilised animals. The geological specimens draw heavily on scientific work in the former colony of Greenland. It hosts many temporary exhibitions, often of an educational nature. The museum is likely to be of interest to children as there are many specimens related to the dinosaur era. There is a museum shop.
