This statue of Frederik V is one of the most famous in all Denmark. It is reputed to have cost more than the four houses that make up the Amalienborg palace and surround it. It was completed in 1768, commissioned by the Danish Asiatic Company and sculpted by the Frenchman Jacques Saly. The artist took many years preparing the statue after securing a place, first as Professor, then as Director, at the Royal Academy of Danish Art. It lies in the centre of Amalienborg palace square, and directly opposite the marble church.
