The Flying Trunk is one of a series of sculptures that are inspired by the tales of Hans Christian Andersen, the writer who was born and raised in the city. The sculpture, which was created in 1991 and was the work of Jens-Flemming Sørensen, is also a fountain. It depicts the trunk of the story resting on tall pyramids, which represent the mosques described in Andersen’s story. The sculpture is located near the Magasin department store in the centre of the city.
