Fanø Shipping and Costume Museum is situated in a brick building close to the harbour and ferry terminal. Fanø’s history is intimately connected with seafaring; many of the island’s menfolk became sailors. The museum contains exhibitions on Fanø’s shipping history. Of particular significance is the large exhibition of model ships connected with the island. The museum also holds a large collection of traditional and distinctive island costumes, and focuses particularly on the everyday dress and life of the womenfolk left behind by sailor husbands.
