The Fanø nature protection area covers a large area of the centre of the island between the two main inhabited areas of the north and south. It contains several car parks with seating and picnic facilities. There are marked trails for walkers from each. You will find areas of forest, meadows, marshland and small lakes. In the summer the heather is particularly beautiful. You can climb Palaebjerg hill for fine views across the island and sea. There is an excellent forest playground which is built entirely of wood from the plantations. A paradise for nature lovers seeking to get away from it all.
