The Dyer’s yard was established in the eighteenth century and remained in operation until 1920, the last dyer remaining in residence until 1959. It is now a museum. The museum has retained the dyer’s quarters, the dyehouse itself, the stables and the garden. Here you can learn about the history of this traditional and important craft and the methods used. During the peak season activities and demonstrations take place, and you can try your hand at dying using old-fashioned materials.
