Den Smidtske Gaard

Den Smidstske Gaard is an excellent example of a late eighteenth century half-timbered merchants house. It is located in the heart of Vejle and is open to the public. The house dates from 1799 and was originally the home of merchant A.I. Smidt. It was constructed by master builder Anders Christensen Kruuse under the supervision of architect and sculptor Jens Hjernoee. The well-preserved building contains living quarters, servants’ quarters, a coach house and stables.
