Lolland-Falster has long been the centre of sugar beet cultivation in Denmark and great refineries grew up both in Nakskov and in Nykøbing. The Danish Sugar Museum is housed in a former factory that is within sight of the Danisco sugar works. It covers an area of around two hundred square metres. It contains exhibitions and artefacts that illustrate the history and processes of sugar manufacturing, with particular reference to the industry on these islands. It is also host to lectures and special exhibitions.
