The Danish Parliament, or Folksting (literally, the “people’s thing”) is open to the public during public debates, so will be of interest to anyone wishing to see democracy in action. The style of debate is rather restrained, if one is used to the rough and tumble of Westminster, as great emphasis is placed on creating consensus within Denmark’s highly complex multi-party system. Guided tours are possible outside parliamentary sittings, although these must be arranged by visitors in advance.
