The Danish Film Institute exists to promote art-house and lesser-known cinema from Denmark and around the world. The building is smart and modern and has excellent facilities, as befits a country where cinema is close to a national obsession. The three cinemas show films of historical interest or that have had a limited commecial release. The institute contains a picture and poster archive and an archive of manuscripts and related materials. It contains an excellent bookshop selling books and DVDs, as well as a first-class restaurant.
