The circus museum at Hvidovre is one of the largest collections devoted exclusively to the circus in Europe. It is based on the personal collection of Olund Barly Jacobsen, a professional juggler who began his career at the Scala in Copenhagen. Barly was an obsessive collector of circus memoribilia and artefacts. Many elaborate costumes are on display, some dating back to the nineteenth century. There are over 100,000 items in the collection, including 95,000 photographs and thousands of circus posters and programmes.
