Christian’s Church dates from 1759 and was designed by celebrated architect Nicolai Eigtved. It is located in Christianshavn, and for many years served the German-speaking population in this area. The interior is perhaps the church’s most striking feature; it is rich in detail and rococo in style. The crypt contains 46 burial chapels. It fell into disuse as relations with Germany soured, and was reopened at the turn of the twentieth century as an ordinary Danish Lutheran parish church.
