The statue of Christian IX is found in the royal parade ground of Christiansborg. It follows a familiar theme in Copenhagen statues, showing the subject on horseback. It was funded by public subscription, which began shortly after the king’s death at the beginning of the twentieth century. A competition was held to select a design, and the winner was the famous Anne-Marie Nielsen, wife of the composer Carl. The statue took twenty years to complete, and was finally unveiled in 1927.
