The Children’s Museum is an attraction designed to introduce youngsters to the past, and is designed for children up to the age of about 12. The museum encourages hands-on activities, such as dressing up in historically accurate costumes. Particular attractions include a replica of a small Viking boat, which children can pretend to sail on, and a replica classroom from the inter-war period, in which museum staff often play the part of schoolteachers. Children are invited to make their own contribution to the museum by placing a picture on display.
