The statue of Canute the Holy stands in the centre of Odense. It was created by renowned sculptor Einar Utzon-Frank and unveiled in 1953. It is cast in bronze and depicts the martyred king holding a sword and gazing heavenward. It stands on a marble plinth. He was murdered during a popular revolt in the eleventh century, and his remains are interred in St. Knud’s church, which is named after him. His story is told in a twelfth century saga.
