Budolfi Cathedral is named after the English patron saint of seamen St. Botolph. A cathedral has stood on this site since medieval times and much of the building dates from around 1400, although this church’s most famous feature, its bulbous spire, was erected in 1779. The spire is regarded as the symbol of the city of Aalborg. Some murals in the church date back to the sixteenth century. The attractive altarpiece and pulpit are seventeenth century. The clock’s chimes ring out across the old town during the day.
