Anne Hvide’s Gåde is Svendborg’s oldest secular building, and dates from 1560. It is located centrally, near the town hall. It has served as a manor house, theatre and inn in the past. It now houses Svendborg’s local history museum. The permanent exhibitions contain archaeological finds from the area. Grisly specimens include a group of medieval skulls. The museum houses temporary themed exhibitions exploring social and cultural aspects of historical development.
